Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, brother of Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, was arrested in by Mexican soldiers in Jalisco on Sunday. He reportedly had an administrative role within the CJNG and was in charge of some of the cartel's trafficking routes into the United States.
The Breakdown
Abraham Oseguera, also known as "Don Rodo," had previously been arrested in the United States on heroin trafficking charges.
This arrest follows the recent arrest and extradition of another brother of El Mencho, Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, who is set to face trafficking charges in the United States.
Despite the arrest of several family members, including El Mencho's wife, son, and daughter, the CJNG leader himself remains at large, posing a significant challenge to law enforcement agencies. El Mencho was previously arrested in the United States multiple times for selling heroin, and was deported to Mexico, where he rose to rival Mexico's other leading cartel, Sinaloa, benefiting from the arrest of Sinaloa's cartel boss alias "El Chapo."
The CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel are considered the two most powerful criminal organizations in Mexico, responsible for smuggling large quantities of narcotics, including fentanyl, into the United States.
